Thirteenth Stop: Elyria - Lorain County

03/18/10

The day was long and the sun was starting to set - but that doesn't stop these Ellen fans! Stop #13 on this "Help Ellen Achieve World Domination in 2010: Ohio 88 County Tour" in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio brought up to this perplexing monument - we just couldn't figure out the "diseased" part... and we are pretty sure we don't want to know!

While in Elyria these fans knew we just couldn't leave until we found the cannon - mission accomplished!

Twelfth Stop: Cleveland - Cuyahoga County, Ohio

After days of traveling through the more rural areas of Ohio, seeing too many farms, courthouses and cannons, Stop #12 was greeted with much excitement! Here we are in downtown Cleveland - home to, among many things, the Cleveland Browns and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. We didn't see any football players but we did have fun roaming around the Dog Pound!

What's a stop in Cleveland without a visit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? We didn't see "The Boss" but we did do a little dance in Ellen's honor!

We've had a lot of fun in Cleveland - even though we did get a parking ticket - but it's time to tell the Browns "See you in the Fall" and move on to our next stop...

Eleventh Stop: Chardon - Geauga County

03/18/10

Stop #11 is a late morning visit to Chardon, Ohio, located in Geauga County in Northeast Ohio. Chardon is a quaint little town where one friendly young resident told us a little about the town and invited us to return for the Maple Syrup Festival at the end of April.

Eighth Stop: Warren - Trumbull County, Ohio

03/18/10
It's a new day and another trip throughout Ohio - this time we're heading through the NorthEast corner of the state and we've brought along a passenger - "Not Exactly Ellen's" mama and the photographer's grandmama!

Our first stop is in downtown Warren in Trumbull County. Trumbull County is home to over 225,000 Ohioans and one crazy woman who is traveling the state taking fan pictures as part of what she's calling: "Help Ellen Achieve World Domination in 2010: Ohio 88 County Tour"!

Sixth Stop: New Philadelphia - Tuscarawas County

03/17/10

Stop #6 is New Philadelphia in Tuscarawas County - still in the central portion of Eastern Ohio. And, what did we find? More cannons and even cannon balls this time! We're beginning to wonder if every courthouse in Ohio has a cannon in front of it (probably!) - we'll find out.

We also found a nice little town square which included the Tuscarawas Welcome Center.

It's getting into the late afternoon/early evening and the sun is starting to fade - so it's off to one more stop before we call it a day ...

Thursday, April 8, 2010

Fifth Stop: Cambridge - Guernsey County, Ohio

Well, here we are on our fifth stop in the 88-county tour. This time it's Cambridge in Guernsey County.

And what did we find - yet another cannon!

We've seen a lot of courthouses so far on our tour, but this one has got to be one of the most beautiful ones we've seen so far...

Fourth Stop: St. Clairsville - Belmont County, Ohio

03/17/10
Next we were off to our Fourth Stop - St. Clairsville in Belmont County, Ohio. Belmont County is along the eastern edge of Ohio and is home to over 70,000 Ohioans!

It's much better to find yourself on the outside of the Sheriff's car than the inside!

It's always a good time for Ellen's fans in Belmont County!

Third Stop: Cadiz - Harrison County, Ohio

03/17/10
We made our way from Steubenville over to Cadiz, which is the county seat of Harrison County. Less than 16,000 people live in Harrison, County.

We found the History Coal Museum on our way to the Harrison County Courthouse - where we found - you guessed it - more cannons!

Second Stop: Steubenville - Jefferson County, Ohio

03/17/10: Why, look who's at the Historic Fort Steuben Visitor Center - hometown boy Dean Martin!

Why: I Want to Work For Ellen DeGeneres

How do you approach something with a plan that is just slightly out of the box, a little out of your comfort zone, and perhaps a tad bit unorthodox without appearing to be just a little too strange to be taken seriously? How do you contact someone you don’t know without coming off as somewhere between eccentric and stalker? How do you explain that you are as serious as a heart attack whilst using methods that are unconventional, downright silly, and liable to make you appear foolish rather than creative?

I have no idea.

But, I’m going to try.

Unemployment has given me the opportunity to do something I haven't done for years: watch daytime TV! I set up a television off to the right of my computer and I could watch away while searching for jobs, reading emails and traveling through the world we know of as the Internet. (Speaking of which, have you seen Google Earth? So cool.) And, of course, one of these shows is The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Every time I watched the show I would think, “I want to be a part of this. I want to work for her show.” After I would realize what a ridiculous thought that was … until the next time the show was on and there I was thinking again, “I want to be a part of this.”

I have always pretty much taken the safer path. Of course, we all have dreams. But life gets in the way. And while you are busy getting through your everyday life, day after day, month after month, year after year – sometimes the chances for the life you want to live, instead of the life you are living, slip away and you find more than half your life has gone by. And you ask yourself, “Is this it? Is this what I want to continue to do for the rest of my life? Or, just once, one time, do I take a chance? Do I lean out of my safety net and give something else a try? Something I actually want to do? Something I would enjoy doing?”

Well, now, this is me – doing exactly that.

I want to work for The Ellen DeGeneres Show. When I watch the show, I see someone who is truly happy with what they are doing. I want to work for that person. I see someone who takes great joy in helping others and I want to work for that person. I see someone who is able to put on a terrific show while enjoying every moment of doing so and who spreads that excitement to her audience and viewers and, again, I want to work for that person.

And, so, I sent off with my résumé. But, can you imagine how many people are also sending mail to Ellen? Why would anyone on her staff read mine? And why, would they then take me seriously? Why would they consider hiring someone, let alone someone from Ohio, for a job that quite possibly doesn’t even exist? Will they even open the envelope?

So, I am back to: How do I get the opportunity to be given, at worst, at least a moment’s consideration – or, at best, an interview?

Why – the Internet, of course!

Thus, the reason for this blog. Add to that a fun project: Doing my part to help Ellen achieve World Domination in 2010. Hah, now you’re thinking: She really is crazy. Aah, but I’m not (just don’t ask my kids). I just happen to have a lot of time on my hands, a sense of humor and a camera.

She has invited fans around the world to send in pictures to her website from where they are. http://photos.ellen.warnerbros.com/galleries/ellens_facebook_fans_around_the_world. My plan – a stop in every county in Ohio – a picture of what I believe I will term “Not Exactly Ellen” in each of those cities. A post for each picture. I can do this. It’ll be fun. I invite you to come along for the ride. Check for stops (posts) from throughout Ohio. Spread the word! Help me find that the one time I choose to be brave enough to do something out of the ordinary I can achieve that goal and not fall flat on my face!
